FrenchieVault Database PWA

FrenchieVault was born from the need to organize diverse collections of items, from tech gadgets to hobbyist materials, without being restricted by pre-defined database schemas. Existing apps were too rigid and lacked in my opinion important item fields. So I built a Progressive Web App (PWA) that allows users to create their own libraries, define custom fields for items, and upload corresponding images. The entire system is backed by a custom Node.js server and a flexible database architecture designed for this dynamic data model.

Challenges & Solutions

One of the main technical hurdles was designing a database schema that could handle completely arbitrary custom fields for any given library. I solved this by having the AI use a hybrid approach, storing library definitions in one table and item data as JSONB in another, allowing for maximum flexibility while maintaining query performance.
