Gemini Gem: Cheapo Finder

Cheapo Finder is a 'Gemini Gem,' which is a custom-instructed version of Google's Gemini model, tailored for a specific task. I engineered this Gem to be an expert at scouring the internet for the best prices on any given product. Users can simply ask, 'Find me the best deal on a this type/model of coffee maker,' and Cheapo Finder will use its specialized instructions and web-browsing capabilities to compare prices across multiple retailers, identify sales, and present the user with the most cost-effective options.

Challenges & Solutions

The main challenge was in the 'prompt engineering'—crafting the perfect set of instructions for the AI. Early versions would sometimes get distracted by irrelevant search results or already stopped looking after a small amount of resellers. I refined the master prompt through dozens of iterations, adding specific instructions to prioritize reputable vendors, ignore sponsored results, and to ask clarifying questions when the user's request is ambiguous. This resulted in a much more accurate and reliable AI agent.
